I was driving back from work today and just had to pull over and take a few snaps of these amazing almond blossom trees in a front yard. It's a really windy day today and there was a constant stream of spinning and tumbling pink and white blossoms floating across the road that was absolutely impossible to miss. I'm sure I wasn't the only one that noticed how awesome it looked - as a matter of fact Japan has a whole festival set aside for this type of beauty.

Here's the thing though... Outside of the blossom season an almond tree isn't exactly the most beautiful or comely tree to look at. It's dark, lumpy and has ungainly twisted craggy limbs and I doubt any kid out there is dying to climb it either. On any normal day you'd just walk right past it - never even looking twice and dismissing it as unremarkable and possibly even ugly. But when that God given time to bloom comes - an explosion of whites and pinks, grace and beauty, elegance and art bursts out for all to see. An unmissable spectacle of the true Creators hand at work. A masterpiece of timing and effortless poise made for one single purpose - to bring glory to the One who made it.

We are all just like that almond tree. There are times when we feel useless, ugly, forgotten, denied and even worthless. But everything has a season and when He gives the word you will bloom just like the blossoms of the almond. Your time will come because our God is a God that makes rivers in the desert, He makes beautiful things from burnt and charred ashes, and breathes life into dead, long forgotten bones. You are known, loved and planned. God loves you.

I'll let you in on a little secret Jesus taught me when I finally gave up my pride, called out to Him and He set me free from all my pain and addictions and changed me into what I am today. Wanna know what the biggest thing our enemy the devil fears about what Jesus can do? It's called REDEMPTION.

Jesus has the power to change anyone into something truly amazing in a single visit, a single touch, a single word. Our enemy whispers "you'll never change...this is the way you are and the way you'll be forever..." Jesus on the other hand says "Give me your pain and the things that weigh you down and I'll give you rest. I'll show you the power of redemption to make you into a new creation by my love and mercy".

I was that lost boy in the story of the prodigal son - feeding pigs and trapped in a prison of pain and shameful addiction until I gave up my pride, called out to Him and finally saw the unchallenged power of His love to save and redeem. A lost prodigal - hurting and alone - but today I am a son...found, secure, known and loved all because of Jesus. Don't believe that lie that you can't change. Of yourself you won't be able to achieve it... But with Jesus and the immense power He holds... All things are possible.

God loves you and youre worth more. Have an awesome day.

Jesus, I offer up my name. I don't need it and it's never meant much to me anyway. I don't have a fancy heritage to lean on or the backing of some powerful well known group to take me places. Those types never liked me anyway. All I've ever had is you and all I am is because of you. I'm just some average guy from a broken home in a broken generation living in very, broken hurting world. Just a guy who found your love and I'm never ever letting it go. So take my name and burn it. In a world of lofty cold mega churches, exalted best seller authors and household name YouTubeposterboys - I'd rather be a nothing for your Kingdom. The world doesn't need another name - all it needs is your Name. So make me into a reflector so that when they see me - they think of you. Mirrors don't have names. There's only one name that matters to me... JESUS. There's only one name this world needs to know... JESUS.

Need Prayer?

Hey, so I was chatting to a couple after work yesterday about life and told them that I might look pretty clean cut and professional when I'm at work but I actually came from a very broken home and a pretty rough background. My parents divorced when I was 4 and my Dad moved out and never came back. For those of you who have had a Mum and Dad at home you're very blessed and most likely wouldn't know what I'm talking about but trust me when I say it leaves a pretty darn big gaping hole in you. It affected me in several ways, mainly self esteem, confidence, loneliness and all the sort of horrible things that go with that sort of environment. I'll say first hand of an absolute truth that it's not the best way for kids to grow up. For me, I developed some pretty nasty addictions from about a 10 year old that stuck with me for many, many years. Most self harm related but they were the type of thing I did my best to hide from others. An invisible prison that I had no way to escape from - and to make it worse, no one even knew. It took many, many years before I found my freedom through Jesus.

He broke every single prison and set me free making me the person I am today. Sadly things affected one of my family members much, much worse. While they were young and in a moment of weakness and extreme pain they were offered and dabbled first with smoking weed, then shortly after it led to stronger things like speed and then just about every hard drug they could get their hands on. After developing such a strong addiction to these dangerous and illicit substances they soon found out that normal employment just didn't make the sort of money you needed to meet the demand your body now craved and so they entered the world of crime and distribution. It's the natural process in the drug world. Supply and demand. The demand dictates the need for supply. As you can imagine, this wreaked havoc on my family forcing me to have to move out for my own safety and because home no longer became a place I wanted to be. I saw attempted suicides right in front of my face with knives cutting wrists right down to the tendons and blood spurting out everywhere. I also saw them jump in front of a full speed moving truck and bounce off the headlights only to get back up and just walk away.

I'll say this of an absolute truth - you don't check out of this place until God says so. Trust me, I even saw them ride a motorbike into a solid brick wall at over 100km/h rupturing the petrol tank with their knee again to just walk away. Things didn't end there though. After some very poor choices the law got involved which ended up with court cases, family members pitched against one another and eventually jail time. You've probably seen those movies where someone talks to a loved one in solitary confinement on a phone with the bullet proof glass window in between. Well, I've been there. That was me on my lunch break from work. Here's where it got interesting. This family member met someone in jail - no one in particular - but just an old guy that said something like "don't end up like me...". Somehow something about this stuck and they decided enough was enough. They decided it was time to break out of that world and start over. So they did. I believe 100% it was God intervening because of His love. He can use very interesting and unexpected ways to reach us.

I've seen His hand move in ways that completely defy description. What followed next was a complete turn around. When they were released from prison they got a job and worked hard. Really hard in fact for many, many years. They cut all ties with the world they previously knew and started over. Fast forward to today and they're happily married living an entirely different life and I have to say that I couldn't be more proud of them and to be known as their brother. Why am I saying all this? Because if you met this person now you would have no idea of their past. Through God's immense grace and mercy they got given a second chance and the opportunity to change for the better and they took it with both hands. Everyone has a story. Everyone has a background and it's probably not going to be something you're gonna find out in the first two or three times you meet someone. That girl that's really shy or dresses really different and pretty out there may be doing it for a reason. She might have had things happen to her when she was young that never should have happened.

That guy that seems really scary and dangerous with all the tats and piercing's might be that way because he never got valued or ever encouraged or loved when he was growing up. Everyone has a story. Jesus never called us to judge others. In fact, its absurd to do so unless you have the ability to know their entire past and have felt everything they did and went through. In all honesty, we just don't have the eyes for it. What Jesus does call us to be is discerning. Don't be a fool and just accept everything you get put in front of you. Test things, check things, avoid things if necessary. Save yourself the pain and destruction that I spoke of above. When it comes to people though, don't use that discernment to pick holes in peoples character or expose their weaknesses to others - instead use discernment to reveal their weaknesses then respond in love. I've seen that very often love isn't about what you do, but what you don't do. Love doesn't fight back when it's provoked because through discernment and wisdom it sees the reason the person is lashing out. Love walks hand in hand with wisdom and allows us to understand the "why behind the what".

Love sees past the insults, the attacks, the hate and sees a hurting person that needs help. I believe there are two types of people in this world... broken ones that want help and broken ones that don't want help. We are all broken whether we like to admit it or not. Our job as believers in Jesus isn't to ram "The Truth" down peoples throats and make them choke on their guilt and shame. Never once does the Bible tell us to remove choice from others - in fact the Bible promotes choice with so many statements of "if" and "choose" all through it. Removing choice is manipulation which is a direct form a witchcraft which only comes from our enemy the Devil. Instead our job is to be a light to the darkness, hope to the hopeless, love to the hate-filled, happiness when there is only misery and truth to deception. Were to have a heart ready to help in love to anyone who wants it. The best way you can show God to anyone is incredibly simple. Be love. The Bible says clearly in 1 Corinthians 16:14 that we should "Do everything in love" for a good reason. God is love so it only makes sense hey.

And if you don't know what real love looks like, I'll tell you. It looks exactly like the perfect sinless Son of God choosing willingly to die in our place for all the horrible sins of the world making a way for us to get back into relationship with God The Father in Heaven. Everyone has a story. Everyone has scars. Sometimes they're still open wounds so today don't be salt in their wounds but instead be the salt on a hot meal to a love starved world. God loves you.

I pray for you today for all that read this that our amazing, loving God and Father comforts you in your pain, reassures you of your true worth in His eyes and heals the hurt this harsh broken world so often deals out to us. My prayer for you is that God restores you from pain to purpose and makes you into a light-bearer and hope-bringer of good news, peace, hope and the love of God to those in this world who need it most. God loves you :)

2 Corinthians 1:3-5 (ESV)

Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our affliction, so that we may be able to comfort those who are in any affliction, with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God. For as we share abundantly in Christ's sufferings, so through Christ we share abundantly in comfort too.

(Just wrote this new song this afternoon after coming in from a good hard skate - hope it blesses you. You'll have to imagine the drums, electric guitar, choir chants and 80s synth I could hear...)

So we... will run... and fight...till the light overcomes the night-

We'll stand.. in truth... and let love align our hearts-

Yeah, we'll... be the ones.... bringin hope and peace to the earth-

They'll know... we belong... to Him cos of love in us-

So lets... be the light...and the hope that the broken need-

Yeah, lets... shine it bright.... for all of the world to see-

Let em know... He's the One... that there's freedom in His Name-

We'll stand... raise our voice... for our King we are unashamed!

God is faithful. It's an absolute spiritual truth forever settled by His Word. And He always keeps His Word.

Despite what happens around us or to us - God is good and remains faithful. We don't adjust God to our circumstances - we adjust ourselves to God's truth and find peace, wisdom, identity and security in that place.

Jesus knew this truth as God's son and walked and lived in that every second He existed in human form on this earth as our Saviour.

God also wants you to believe that same truth and live and walk in it day by day as simple, humble little children of God through childlike faith.

God loves you.

Need Prayer?

Hey, So I was asked to talk about God today and wasn't sure where to start. So I prayed and asked God for help and He gave me two stories from the Bible to talk about. I wasn't sure how they linked up at first but as I started speaking it made sense. The first story was about a King in the Bible called Hezekiah. Long story short, Israel at that time had a pretty long string of bad Kings full of corruption, greed and sin that brought nothing but death and problems to everyone in the land. This guy Hezekiah was pretty good guy. He wasnt perfect but he loved God and did his best to follow His ways and I'm sure it was a nice breath of fresh air for the people of his country. Hezekiah fell very ill and was facing death. A prophet called Isaiah was sent to tell Hezekiah that his time has come and he is going to die. The message was simple. "Get your house in order, you're going to die." As much as this wasn't exactly the most positive message to receive it was extremely merciful for God to tell him this as so many of us never know when our time is up.

The part that follows is quite amazing. Hezekiah humbles himself, gets on his knees in tears before God asking God to spare his life. He weeps bitterly before God asking God to keep using him as a King to lead God's people - and God hears. God answers and says "I will grant you another 15 years as King" and as a sign to prove it God made the shadow of the sundial go backwards. For this to happen is scientifically, logically and universally impossible - yet it happened. What God was saying was this "I rule time. I live outside of the confines and laws of time and I command them as I wish". Hezekiah lived 15 more years as God said in answer to his humble cries. The next story God brought to mind was the story of a young, desperately beautiful girl living in a dangerous foreign land. A land where people who had her origin were being hunted and killed. Her name was Esther. She was chosen among many of the most beautiful girls of the land to be in line to become the next queen. She would be the most powerful woman in one of the most powerful nations of that age - Persia.

The only problem was she was an orphan child born a Jew. The Jews were being targeted for assassination left, right and center and Esther had to be extremely careful who she trusted or she would be the next one with a target on her back. Here's the thing... this girl was special. The beauty she had went much deeper than just what you saw on the outside. Far, far deeper. She gained the highest level of favour from the foreign King but knew all along if she revealed her true origins it most likely would mean her death and the death of all those she knew. But the true beauty in her was her fearlessness in the face of certain death. She prayed to God asking Him to help and save her people from being cruelly wiped out - and God heard and answered. Esther revealed the truth that she was among those being hunted and killed and God did the impossible. He turned the Kings heart towards Esther's plight and answered the cries of all His people. Esther became a true heroine. Royalty embodied. Sacrificial love for the sake of others despite her own peril. The very heart of God.

God was so faithful and He protected her, blessed her and as a result - used her to be an instrument to save the lives of her race... the people of God. So I'll finish here with this. God hears. Don't ever think He doesn't hear you. He hears you just fine. Even those silent cries in the night. He hears the groans from your broken heart and knows your pain. He may not answer when and how you like but know that He hears and is forever faithful. His ways are far above our ways and He operates on very different terms to us. Know this, there are no limits for Him. Time, Death, Resources, People. He needs none of it to do what He does. He is all you need and more. Keep calling out to Him because He loves you and hears. He will make a way through the darkness. Hold on because you are loved and heard. You are valued and known. Your God will save you and reply to your cries with His strong arm of salvation and redemption. I'm praying you have an awesome day today. Don't give up.

[ Psalm 34:17 - When the righteous cry for help, the LORD hears and delivers them out of all their troubles. ]

You can hate me, you can rate me but you'll never break me...

So you keep spittin that venom and dishin that hate...

See I've read the whole story, the end of the book...
And all of yours burns, everythings gonn be took-

I ain't afraid of you snake and He's told me your game...
This fake world of yours on my soul has no claim...
So I will not be threatened, slowed down or be bought...
Cos my King won my heart on the day that He fought-

So bring all your worst and pile up the pain...
Stack up the sadness and heap up the shame...
Cos My God is the fire and your craft is the wood...
So the evil you give, He will turn it for good †
